Wars

I have always been fond of wars

I like to put my head in other people’s wars.

Standing with the losing side.

Losing is a disappointment I can handle, but victories are false promises

and I know how to choose my battles

slow, boring, and bloody like the third day of a woman’s period.

There is a war in my head

I was seven when my grandma blamed me for stealing the sweets beneath her bed.

Even though I didn’t like sweets

she said stealing for others is pure stupidity.

I told her the thief in my head is a smooth talker.

“Smooth enough to kick us out of heaven,” she mumbled,

Not knowing that the smile of “others” was part of heaven,

and the thief in my head already knew

It was bad to store beneath beds where only monsters could hide.
